I came round a corner going through a village this morning, to be greeted by sheet ice followed by one of those traffic calming islands with the curb protruding out on my side of the road. With on coming traffic I had not choice but to turn.

On your own this is a bad situation but with the added weight of a pillion, the back tyre lost grip and it was game off. A very slow spin to the ground.

The FZ-1 took it well the damage was confined mainly to the exhaust, although there was slight damage to the handle bar end and the small plastic radiator cowling and my ego of course. Boo hoo.

UPDATE
The handlebar clamps were also bent at £50 each. That’s not bad, could have been a lot worse.

Man this morning was a nightmare, riding from Baldock to Buntingford (a truly awesome biking road) was real fun! -2 deg’s with random frozen slush and black ice made corning a butt clenching exercise. If I had come off I’m sure the seat would have come with me. Especially heart stopping when an artic comes thundering round the corner from the other direction. It took 10mins of rocking the bike backwards and forwards to get away from the garage.

Still, beats the s£$t out of the train.
